Tumelo Rakumako, better known for his stage name Big Star or Bigstar Johnson is a South African rapper, He is best known for winning the South African television show Vuzu: 'The Hustle'.
Tumelo Rakomako was born in Tembisa, Kempton Park on the 28th of August 1991, His family later relocated to Birchleigh, Kempton Park where he went to Norkem Park Primary School and entered a musical competition in Grade 7, although his group came second in the overall events this is where he was inspired to pursue music as a career. It wasn't until Norkem Park High School where he was given the nickname Big Star by a school friend. He went on to be the drummer for indie artist Lily Million while he was in Varsity and about a year after completing his studies he was called in a contestant on 'The Hustle'.
Music Career
Big Star was selected as a contestant on the Vuzu Amp reality show 'The Hustle' alongside 19 other contestants, which consisted of artists such as Jimmy Wiz and Shane Eagle the show was jugded by experienced South African rappers AKA, motswako rapper Khuli Chana and Stogie T, who went on to crown Big Star the Season 1 winner. As a part of the prize he was given a recording deal with Vth Season, which he is still signed to.
Big Star was featured on Shane Eagle's debut single "Way up" which was well received by various radio stations.
Months later he released his first single on the 15th of February 2016, "My Year" featuring Durban rapper Aewon Wolf which peaked at number 2 on the 5fm top 40 chart.
Big Star also has been on numerous features of prominent names in South African Hip Hop such as Rouge (rapper)Rouge, DJ Sliqe, DJ Switch, DJ Capital, Priddy Ugly, HHP and did a freestyle over AKA's Dreamwork.
Under Vth Season Big Star released an EP titled Tellascope on the 21st of April 2017 where he featured South African rappers Reason, Frank Casino, Priddy Ugly, Aewon Wolf and Zoocci Coke Dope.
