RE: M FIELD is a follow-up to M Field; the songs here roar with fresh vitality. The tunes are always in motion, with guitars swaying and strings bursting. The song "Hyenas" features a complex arrangement of guitar tones and key strokes, accompanied by a sparkling sawtooth synth that accentuates the lively chorus. This passage has one of Field's sharpest hooks, contrasting the freedoms found in nature with what Susan Sontag famously described as "the painful structural contradictions inherent in the human situation." "Baby, I'm your forest/Baby, I'm your ozone," he sings, followed by one of the most bizarre precoital lines ever. "They've got a lot of reasons/Got a lot of right words/Got a lot of rules." In a similar vein, "Fire on Campus" features muted guitar and organs.
