M. Field first gained notoriety as the lead singer and songwriter of Beatenberg, a band founded in Cape Town with Robin Brink and Ross Dorkin. His output is characterized by a pop sensibility infused with the sounds of his home South Africa and a fondness for odd poetry. Their first album, The Hanging Gardens of Beatenberg, broke records on the South African charts and was met with wild praise for its inventive fusion of genres. After that, the band appeared on Jools Holland and Jimmy Fallon. M Field has also been very busy, working with Tresor on a regular basis. Tresor's album Nostalgia featured their platinum single "Aphrodite," which went on to win "Best Pop Album" at the 2019 South African Music Awards.
